Gastonia getting new development downtown

The Gaston Gazette - May 6, 2021

A former business office known as the York Professional Building near the downtown post office will receive a makeover in hopes of attracting retail use and more businesses.

Cramerton-based Lenox Development Group will also offer office space for lease in the 8,300-square-foot brick building at 155 S. York St. that was constructed in 1930.

Lenox Development hopes to attract retail type use, such as a coffee shop or restaurant, for the upper level of the building and office space use for the lower level.

The development should add momentum to downtown business growth, said Eric Vargosko, managing partner of Lenox Development.

"Our intention and hope is to bring a higher quality of development to Gastonia similar to what other cities that have experienced this type of growth," Vargosko said. "We want the place to be very inviting."

Renovations to the building will keep the brick exterior, along with exposed brick walls inside, a wood roof and high ceilings.

Lenox, which has been doing mixed use and commercial development since 2005, tries to take consideration with surrounding properties with all of its projects, Vargosko said.

"You're taking a vision and implementing it as a place where people live, work and play," he said.
